Steve Lannan's Cedar Timber Frame Boat Covering.

This timber frame on Lake Winnipesaukee For Steve Lannan of Lannan Chevrolet in Massachusetts, is fabricated out of Cedar timbers as Cedar is an excellent wood for standing up to the weather. It took 4 weeks to complete all the cutting, planing and traditional mortice and tennon joinery in our shop and it took 3 days to assemble it with 3 men. Working over the water is more dificult and added about a day for the extra rigging. After we completed the timber frame, Image Awning Came and measured for their beautiful awning work. It is getting harder to get permission to build complete old style boathouse's and when the covering is removed for the winter there is a more eye pleasing frame work left exposed and visible for the off season.

Tommy Moore and Scott Hunter
drawing joints tight and
inserting  hardwood pegs.

A temporary scaffolding in the center was
needed to support the roof frame until all
the parts were fastened together to make
a self supporting roof system.

When the hip rafters and jack rafters
are all fit and fastened together, the
scaffolding is removed.

The Cedar timbers will resist deterioration
and the frame itself seems to
blend very well with the
surrounding scenery.
